Detecting IP Device Moves

IMPORTANT: Because an IP device may register for service from anywhere on the network, it is possible to move an IP device and DN without authorization and without updating system programming. If information such as Customer Emergency Services ID (CESID) becomes out-of-date, the result may be that emergency personnel are directed to the wrong location.

The system provides two forms and a number of maintenance logs that display the location of IP devices. You can use these forms and logs to

Device Detection Logs

The system generates maintenance logs when

For example, "The IP device, DN 46008, registered at STP L2 MAC address 00:01:E7:0C:21:32, port 14" (new DN)

For example, "The IP device, DN 47084, moved from STP L2 MAC 00:80:2D:7C:D0:61, port 7 to STP L2 MAC 00:80:2D:7C:D0:61, port 9" (DN move)

For example, "An IP device, with DN 47084, registered at STP L2 MAC address "Not supported", STP Layer 3 Port, "Not Supported". (No DN location reported)

To view device connectivity logs:
